Our History /
CREATING INNOVATIVE ELECTRICAL
SOLUTIONS SINCE 1936
Eckardt Group was founded in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1936 as Eckardt-Ness Electric, a partnership between the two original owners Oscar Eckardt and Mr. Ness. The firm continued to grow and, in 1959, was incorporated as Eckardt Electric. In the 1960’s Eckardt employee Riley T. Stephens, Sr. (RT), began his purchase of the company and took full ownership in 1972. As the years went on, the company would be passed down from generation to generation and is still part of the Stephens family legacy today, with Rilo Stephens as the current president.
For over 80 years, Eckardt has been recognized as one of the top electrical contractors in Georgia. Our initial customers included Southern Bell (AT&T), Trust Company Bank (SunTrust, now Truist), and Emory Hospital, relationships that we are proud to still hold today. Over the years, we have helped build some of the most iconic buildings in Atlanta, including the AT&T headquarters tower in Midtown, the Diagnostic & Treatment Facility at Emory Midtown, and the new Living Building at Georgia Tech.
In 2018 Eckardt Electric was re-branded as Eckardt Group with the investment of several employee-owners and new family members. This move will allow Eckardt to serve its clients with expanded resources while maintaining the legacy that has been handed down for generations.
